CEEISA GENERAL INFORMATION

 

Assistants

Student assistants will be in the Main  Building of  University:  at the registration point, at the information desk and in the rooms of the panels throughout the duration of the conference to help you with anything you might need. They will be wearing red badges. Participants in the conference from Wroclaw University will be wearing blue badges – they also will help you and will be able to give you all the  important information.

Book exhibit

Academic publishers such as Palgrave Macmillan, Routledge, Wroclaw University Publishing, and Arboretum will display their new books. The book exhibit will be located and open at the following times and places:

24.05 2007 Thursday: 13.00 –18.30 – in the hall above the Aula Leopoldinum, Main Building of the University, first floor.

25.05.2007 Friday: 09.00 –18.30 – Main Building of the University, main entrance, ground floor.

26.05.2007 Saturday: 09.00 – 13.00 – Main Building of the University, main entrance, ground floor.

 

Eating out

The Central Market Square and its nieghbourhood offers a large number of cafés, pubs, restaurants and clubs. Most of restaurants are open from 10.00 till 24.00. Pubs stay open till very late night.

Emergency

Dial 999, the 24-hour number of the ambulance service, from a fixed-line telephone or a public payphone. From a mobile phone call 112, the access number for all emergency services: police, ambulance service, and fire brigade.

 

Information desk/First-aid kit

Our assistants are ready to help you and answer your question regarding the conference. The Information desk is located and open:

Internet and e-mail facilities

We do not provide internet and e-mail facilities in the Main Building of the University. However the area of the Main Market is covered by wireless internet (hot – spot) that you can access with your own laptop. You can always go the typical internet cafe (kawiarnie internetowe). The prices for using the Internet or just a computer without net connection vary from between 3 and 5 PLN per hour. Internet cafés can be found in the city centre, such as:

Navigator, 11/13 Kuźnicza St. (every day 09.00-24.00)

W sercu miasta, 4 Przejście Garncarskie St. (Mo-Sa 09.00-18.00, Su 11.00-18.00)

In addition to hotels, free Internet access is available at the Tourist Information Centre.

 

Money

There are several exchange bureaux in the city centre. One 24-hour bureau is located at the Main Railway Station.

Cash point (ATM)

There are a large number of cash points (ATM) in the City Centre. Most of them are compatible with VISA CARD, MASTER CARD and others. 

 

Parking

There are restricted parking zones in Wrocław including the centre of the city, which is in the First (most expensive zone). An hour’s parking in the first zone costs 3 PLN.

An hour’s parking in a secure car park typically costs 2–5 PLN. Overnight parking will cost between 25 PLN and 50 PLN.

 

Pharmacies

The nearest pharmacies are located in the Central Market Square, 5 minutes walk away from the main University building.

 

Photocopying and printing

You can make photocopies, printouts or scans  just opposite the Main Building of  University:

Plac Uniwersytecki 7 – photocopying, printing, scanning;

Plac Uniwersytecki 9/13 – photocopying, printing;

Kuźnicza  29 B St. /corner of  Nankiera  (little, blue window in Kalogródek bar)- photocopying.

The price per page is about 0,08 PLN for copying and 0,20 PLN for printing.

Participants are kindly asked to register. All participants will receive conference badges and materials. The registration point is located and open:

Transport

 

  • From the Airport

The Airport is situated 10 km from the city centre, in the south–western part of Wrocław. To get to and from the Airport you can take bus No. 406. Buses in the opposite direction, from the city centre to the Airport, depart from a bus stop in Dworcowa Street, near the Main Railway Station.The bus ride to the Airport takes approximently half an hour.

 

However, we suggest you take a taxi or use Wroclaw Transfer (English speaking, you may book on the webside before venue: http://www.wroclawtransfers.com/, payment by cash or credit card) in stead of taking a bus to get out of the Airport.  

 

  • From the Railway Station

The Main Station is located at Piłsudskiego Street, in the centre of Wrocław, 15-20 minutes’ walk from the Central Market Square (Rynek). The most straightforward route from the station to the Square will be to go left down Piłsudskiego Street, then turn right into Świdnicka Street. The Coach Station is just across Sucha Street, in the back of the Main Railway Station.

 

      ·         Taxi

List of taxi companies:

ZTP 96-22; RADIO TAXI MPT  9191; LUX RADIO TAXI 96-23; DOMINO TAXI 96-25; RADIO TAXI SERC 96-29 or +48 71 363 37 37;

Taxi from the Railway Station costs about 20 PLN, from the Airport about 40-50 PLN.

Advice: To avoid a surprise when paying for the ride you should avoid taking cabs from taxi ranks, especially near the Main Railway Station or the Airport. It is safest to call a taxi company for a cab.

 

  • Public Transport

Ticket prices on the trams and buses: one ride ticket, Normal 2.00 PLN/1.00 PLN, students (with ISIC identification) pay half. Express or night bus - 2.80 PLN. Single-ride tickets, identical for buses and trams, can be bought at newsagents’ or from vending machines, at the bus/tram stop.

Route numbers: 0-24 -  trams; 70-79 - temporary trams; A,C,D,E,K,N - express lines; 100-149 -  normal buses; 3xx - normal buses, peak hours only; 4xx - accelerated buses; 6xx - suburban buses (if outside town, ticket costs 2,60PLN); 7xx  - temporary buses; 240-259 -  night buses (ticket costs 2,80zł).

Trams do not run during the night.

 

Places to visit

  • Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Katedralna St., open Mo-Su 10.00-18.00 (closed Sundays), admission 4PLN, tower admission 5PLN. Dating from the 13th century, featuring stunning architecture and the largest church organ in Poland.

  • The Central Market Square is the archictural centre-point of Wrocław, and its most obvious attraction. It is one of the biggest town squares in Europe, and is lined on all sides with photogenic and interesting buildings. Centre of tourist life.

  • Town Hall,14 Sukiennice St., south side of the Central Market Square, open 11.00-17.00 (closed Monday), admission 4PLN. Construction of the town hall began in the 14th century. It was one of the few major buildings in Wroclaw to survive World War 2, and it now serves as the Museum of Burgher Art. The interior features stunning gothic interiors.

  • Ostrow Tumski, group of islands on Odra River with the beautiful Cathedral and a number of buildings several hundred years old, about 10 minutes’ walk from the University main building.

  • St. Elizabeth's Church, 1Elzbiety St., open  Mo-Sa 9.00-16.00 (13.00-16.00 Su), tower admission (no lift) 5PLN On the northeast side of the Central Market Square this is a large and imposing medieval building with a 90m high tower with spectacular views over the old town.

  • Salt Square Solny Sqr., formerly salt market,now flower market.

  • Panorama of the battle of Racławice, 11 Purkyniego St., open Th-Su 9.00-16.00 admission 20PLN (includes admission to National Museum). This giant 360-degree painting, depicting a Polish military victory in 1794.Guided tours in English, French and German run every 30 minutes at no extra cost.

  • Japanese Garden, Park Szczytnicki, open 9.00-19.00 April - October, admission 2PLN. A legacy of the 'World Expo' of 1913 held in Wroclaw, this is a large landscaped garden restored with the assistance of the Japanese government. 

  • Max Berg's Centennial Hall (Breslau Dome, former Jahrhundert Halle. One of the first and biggest concrete halls, mentioned in all histories of architecture.
